At the same time, its EN-A certification ensures the highest level of passive safety. Its partially sheathed line set reduces drag and lightens the wing. With its versatile design, the BIRDY2 supports pilots in the long run, providing ample room for progression before considering an upgrade to an EN-B wing

Developed alongside the upcoming WILD 2—a glider designed for extreme challenges like the X-Alps—the BIRDY 2 benefits from high-performance R&D, including an improved internal structure and an optimised line system, reducing weight significantly.

Its ergonomic risers make pre-flight checks easier, and maillons replace soft links for a more user-friendly connection between risers and lines.

This is why the BIRDY 2 is available in 6 sizes instead of the usual 5, allowing you to optimize your positioning within the Flying weight range range. To get the most out of your BIRDY 2, Supair recommend that you choose a Flying weight range where you are in the upper half of the range. The BIRDY 2 has passed double load testing, which means that the smaller sizes have been tested separately from the larger ones, to best adapt to the specifics of each. This makes it possible to use materials and lines adjusted to each size: thinner lines on the smaller gliders s help reduce drag, and therefore maximize performance.

The BIRDY 2 has also been developed in size XXS to meet the needs of smaller riders who often have difficulty finding a glider to suit their weight. The 50-65 kg range makes it easier for featherweights to fit into the upper half of the Flying weight range range, and therefore to enjoy an optimal experience under their glider.

With the BIRDY 2, Supair introduce a new XXS size, covering a takeoff weight range of 50 to 65 kg. This new model allows pilots all sizes, including the lightest, to find a glider that suits them perfectly.

Why is this important?

Your position within the flying weight range has a direct impact on how your glider behaves. Here’s what that means:

• Lightly loaded glider: Generally flies slower, making it easier to exploit thermals. However, it is more sensitive to turbulence, with more frequent “flashing” movements (usually without consequence).
• Heavily loaded glider: Flies faster and is more resistant to turbulence. Collapses occur less frequently but can be more dynamic. Higher speed makes thermalling a bit more technical, requiring quicker reactions from the pilot.
